Camera Pairing

Before we begin, ensure you have downloaded the Birdfy app and completed the sign-up process.

A. Pairing Your Camera with QR Code

Ensure that your phone is connected to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. What is 2.4GHz Wi-Fi? How do I ensure my Wi-Fi is 2.4GHz?

  1. On the home page, tap the "+" icon located at the bottom right corner to access the "Add Device" page. Select Birdfy Feeder Metal.
  2. Find and scan the QR code on your Birdfy Feeder Metal, which is located at the back of the camera.
  3. Follow the in-app instructions to connect your phone to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. Enter the Wi-Fi password.
  4. Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds to power on the camera. Then, double press the power button to activate Wi-Fi pairing mode. The blue light should begin flashing, and you will hear a periodic chime.
  5. Position your phone close to the camera for scanning the QR code. Ensure that the distance between your phone and the camera is between 5-15cm (2-6").
  6. If the camera successfully scans the QR code, the flashing blue light will turn solid, and the app will progress to the next step.
  7. Once the camera is connected to Wi-Fi, you can opt to enable device location for improved AI identification or manually input a location.
  8. Name your Birdfy and begin your birdwatching expedition!

Common Issues

  1. Camera Fails to Scan the Phone QR Code (Blue Light Keeps Flashing):
    1. Ensure that the lens protective film is removed.
    2. Increase your screen brightness and adjust the distance between your phone and the camera.
  2. Cannot Locate the Device QR Code:
    1. The device QR code of Birdfy Feeder Metal is located at the back of the camera.
  3. Wi-Fi is Not 2.4GHz:
    1. Please switch to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. Contact your Internet Service Provider for specific instructions.
  4. Camera Fails to Connect to Wi-Fi (Blue Light Turns from Flashing to Solid, but App Does Not Progress):
    1. Verify your Wi-Fi password.
    2. Confirm that your Wi-Fi network operates on the 2.4GHz frequency.
    3. Ensure a strong Wi-Fi signal.
    4. Retry the connection process. If the issue persists, contact support@birdfy.com.

B. Pairing Your Camera with Bluetooth

  2. Enable Bluetooth on your phone.
  1. On the home page, tap the "+" icon at the bottom right corner to access the "Add Device" page. Choose Birdfy Feeder Metal.
  2. Find and scan the QR code on your Birdfy Feeder Metal, which is located at the back of the camera.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds to power on the camera. Then, double press the power button to activate Wi-Fi pairing mode. The blue light should start flashing, and you will hear a periodic chime.
  4. Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled and that the Birdfy app has been granted Bluetooth access. Wait for your phone to detect the device through Bluetooth.
  5. Once your phone successfully locates the device, tap "Pair" and connect your phone to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network and input the password.
  6. After the camera is successfully connected to Wi-Fi, you can opt to enable device location for enhanced AI identification or manually input a location.
  7. Name your Birdfy and begin your birdwatching expedition!

Common Issues

  1. Cannot Find Device via Bluetooth:
    1. Ensure that your Birdfy product supports Bluetooth pairing. If you are still unable to pair the device via Bluetooth, consider switching to QR code pairing.
  2. Progress Bar Stuck at 0-20%:
    1. Verify if your Wi-Fi operates on the 2.4GHz frequency. Confirm the accuracy of the Wi-Fi password. Ensure a strong Wi-Fi signal.
  3. Progress Bar Stuck at 40%:
    1. Check if your Wi-Fi network is operating on the 2.4GHz frequency. Ensure a strong Wi-Fi signal.
  4. Progress Bar Stuck at 80%:
    1. Tap the "Retry" button to attempt connecting to the network again.

After Pairing Successfully

Congratulations on successfully pairing your Birdfy Feeder Metal! Here is a brief introduction to the main features of the Birdfy app:

  1. Moment: All Birdfy products (excluding birdhouses) can detect and record bird movement in front of the camera. Recordings are stored in the app, and users receive push notifications.
