Getting Started
Welcome to the Birdfy family! Let's get you ready for an exciting and delightful birdwatching adventure!

Upon receiving your Birdfy Hum Feeder Ruby, refrain from assembling or setting it up outdoors right away. Use the provided USB Type-C cable to charge the camera module for a minimum of 10 hours.
A red light indicator will illuminate during the charging process. The light will turn off once the camera is fully charged.

Step 3: Follow In-App Instructions to Pair Your Camera
Ensure that your phone is connected to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. What is 2.4GHz Wi-Fi? How do I ensure my Wi-Fi is 2.4GHz?
After installing the Birdfy app and setting up an account, tap the "+" icon at the bottom right corner to navigate to the 'Add Device' page. Select Birdfy Hum Feeder Ruby and follow the on-screen instructions to pair your camera. For detailed guidance, see 2 Camera Pairing.
Step 4: Assemble the Product
With the camera fully charged and ready, it's time to prepare your Birdfy Hum Feeder Ruby! Confirm that you have all the accessories listed in the User Manual. Follow the assembly instructions provided in the manual or visit 3 Assembly and Device Care to know how to assemble your product.
Step 5: Adding Nectar
To prepare nectar, it is recommended to mix 4 parts water with 1 part plain white sugar. Homemade nectar is safe, cost-effective, and ideal for hummingbirds. Never use organic sugar, brown sugar, or honey. For more details, refer to the Hummingbird Feeder Tips.
Once the nectar is ready:
- Remove the camera from the feeder base by twisting it off.
- Pour the nectar into the base.
- Securely reattach the camera to the feeder base.
Step 6: Set Up Your Birdfy Outdoors
- Choose a Location with Strong Wi-Fi Signal
- Check your Wi-Fi signal strength by accessing Device Settings > Wi-Fi Analysis.
- Proper Installation
- Hang the hummingbird feeder on a pole and use an ant moat filled with water to block ants from reaching the nectar. For more tips, refer to Hummingbird Feeder Tips.
- Connecting the Camera to the Solar Panel
- For extended usage, you could consider adding a solar panel. Ensure the camera is fully charged using a charger before connecting it to the solar panel to maintain charge levels. To prevent ants from crawling along the cable to the feeder, use the included ant moat for solar panels.
Step 7: Maintenance
Clean your feeder every time you refill it. Use a brush and warm water to remove bacteria, mold, and residue.
In hot weather, nectar spoils faster. Use this guide to know how often to replace it and clean the feeder:
- 70–75℉ (21-24℃): every 5 days
- 76–81℉ (25-27℃): every 4 days
- 82–86℉ (28-30℃): every 3 days
- 87–90℉ (31-32℃): every 2 days
- Over 90℉ (Over 32℃): daily refresh!
